Venezuelan people doubt about Juan Guaido's legitimacy as interim president
Venezuelan people began to challenge the legitimacy of Juan Guaido as self-proclaimed interim president and his practice after the attempt of his and the United States to ship humanitarian aids to the country failed.
Since the opposition leader claimed himself interim president of Venezuela in January, Guaido has called his supporters to take to the street several times, while the Maduro administration accused him of ganging up with foreign powers to start a coup in Venezuela.
Facing this situation, many residents in Caracas, Venezuela's capital, hope the two sides could drop their confrontations and seek political settlement through negotiations lest greater damages are made to the country.
"The Juan Guaido-led opposition, and the Maduro-headed government are still in confrontation, which could only do harm to the country. The pledge that Guaido made at the square is just a political show, which violates the constitution, and is illegal," said a resident in Caracas.
After Venezuelan President Maduro announced an agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross to bring humanitarian aid into the country, the first batch of some 20 tons of goods was shipped to Caracas smoothly and have been distributed.
The Venezuelan people welcome the move. They said that the humanitarian aids acceptable to the country should be of fair, independent, and neutral nature, not attached to any political purposes.
The representative of the Red Cross in the country said that the 20 tons of goods were delivered to Venezuelan people with no political strings.
"I think this is good. It can help our people. The humanitarian aid should not be political, and most importantly, it should be delivered [to people in need]," said a resident.
Guaido called for nationwide protests against the Maduro government on May 1.
The protest will be larger than ever, so as to press the Maduro government and force him to resign, Guaido said on Friday.
