China, U.S. should remove barriers to bilateral innovation cooperation: business insider
China and the United States should carry through economic and trade talks to remove barriers to bilateral innovation cooperation, said the president of the U.S.-China Business Council in Kentucky, the United States.
The council is a non-profit organization and one of the most influential chambers of commerce in the United States, whose members are American companies doing business in China.
In an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) during the three-day U.S.-China Governors Collaboration Summit in Lexington from May 22 to 24, Craig Allen, the president, said the American companies in China have no reason to withdraw from the country.
"Most American companies are in China because it is such a dynamic, strong, vibrant and innovative economy, and we wish to be a part of that. And indeed, we have contributed to that in a massive way, and we wish to continue to do so. I don't that he (President Donald Trump) is interested in moving all U.S. companies out of China. That is not possible, and nor is desirable," he said.
Allen called on the governments of the two countries to continue economic and trade talks to enhance bilateral cooperation.
"It is important that we carry through that process to the end and come out with a better agreement that puts us on a plateau where American and Chinese innovators can coordinate with each other with as few barriers as possible. Our trade and investment relations are not large enough. If we both wish to prosper, we should expand those relations more," he said.
China and the U.S. have held 11 rounds of high-level economic and trade consultations since March, 2018.
The U.S. authorities raised tariffs on 200 billion U.S. dollars' worth Chinese products from 10 to 25 percent on May 10, when the Chinese delegation led by Vice Premier Liu He was in Washington for the 11th round of China-U.S. high-level economic and trade consultations.
