China-Consumer Electronics Show Asia
CES Asia kicks off, bringing more intelligent automobile technology
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Asia kicked off on Tuesday in east China's Shanghai, bringing the entire automobile technology ecosystem under one roof.
CES Asia 2019 doubles the size of its show floor for automobile technology and also features the latest cars and connected vehicles. The up-to-date connectivity technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) and automobile technology are among the emerging trends.
Hyundai, a pioneering South Korean car manufacturer, even displays an automobile powered by hydrogen. The car can purify 99.9 percent of particulate matter, fine dust and pollutants in air while running, which means if the car runs for an hour, then 26.9 kilogram of air can be cleaned.
"In the near future, Hyundai plans to introduce our technologies to the Chinese market by upgrading and customizing them," said Park Soon-chan, director of the Hyundai Fuel Cell Office.
The exhibition is also demonstrating a commercial 5G network for vehicles as well as intelligent terminals. By using the driving control system, attendees can remotely control an autonomous car 50 kilometers away.
"We try to use all kinds of technologies such as AI, big data and machine learning to configure the vehicle so that all functions can be suited to a particular driver the moment he or she gets in. And this method, we call it 'personal tailor," said Gu Feng, CEO of AIWAYS.
Many automobile startups are also adopting new, innovative technologies such as brand new human-vehicle interfaces and speech and emotion recognition, in a bid to attract new customers by making their vehicles more intelligent.
"I think that the automobile as an ecosystem must be more open. There will be no cellphone holders [in future cars], but drivers should still be able to have the same experience of using smartphones.," said Wu Zhenhao, CEO of Polestar China.
Many exhibitors expressed their views that future vehicles will definitely become smarter with the rapid development of modern automobile technologies.
"We believe that over 95 percent of cars in China will be equipped with intelligent tech between 2025 and 2035," said Zhu Lei, founder of Chinese automobile technology company Mushroom.
The three-day CES Asia event features over 550 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions.
