German companies expand businesses in China
Deutsche Unternehmen bauen Geschäfte in China aus
German companies have expanded their businesses in China. They have full confidence in the market, as China steps up its opening-up efforts.
The BMW Group Region China has rolled out its plan for autonomous driving in China. Recently, it conducted first test of autonomous driving in a 5G environment, and has inked relevant cooperation agreements with three Chinese companies, namely China Unicom, Tencent and NavInfo.
"China is, for BMW and most companies, not only the largest market, it is actually the lead market in what we call A.C.E.S., so we define the future areas of technology in the automotive industry as A.C.E.S. -- autonomous, connected, electrified and share. And China is already taking a lead," said Jochen Goller, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China.
German chemical company BASF has also increased investment in China. The company invests 10 billion U.S. dollars in its Zhanjiang Verbund site in south China's Guangdong Province. Two production units will be installed and the first unit will be put into use in 2022.
"This will be the BASF's largest investment here in Asia, and once the entire new site is ready here in Zhanjiang, this site will be the third largest site for BASF globally," said Lin Hanping, project leader of BASF's Zhanjiang Verbund site.
China-Germany economic and trade cooperation keeps growing and China has been the largest trading partner of Germany for three years in a row.
From January to July, new German investment to China was 1.17 billion U.S. dollars, up 62.7 percent year on year. New Chinese investment to Germany was 1.01 billion U.S. dollars during the first seven months, up 27.6 percent year on year.
