Chinese president's visit expected to increase investment in and cooperation with India
Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to India is expected to bring more investment and cooperation projects to India.
At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bandari, Xi will attend the second informal meeting with Modi and pay a state visit to Nepal from Oct. 11 to 13, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Director General and CEO at Federation of Indian Exports Organization (FIEO) Ajay Sahai expressed his welcome and expectations to Xi's visit.
"India has really good relationship with China and the relationship goes beyond economy. We have huge cultural ties with China. We are seeing more and more Indians traveling to China, Chinese companies coming to India, Chinese people coming to India. We feel that China also is a huge opportunity for Indian exporters," said Sahai.
China and India have a combined population of 2.7 billion and account for 20 percent of the world's GDP. Sahai believes that cooperation between the two sides has huge potentials and broad prospects.
"In fact, this year alone, we will save around five billion dollars on mobile imports, [which is] accessible only because Chinese mobile manufacturers are in India. We expect much more investment to come and we are looking into some of the automobile makers also to come to India and set up the base," said Sahai.
