Rioters damage subway station, attack police vehicles in Hong Kong: senior officer
The past weekend saw continued violent activities as rioters in Hong Kong damaged subway stations and attacked police vehicles, according to Hong Kong police on Monday's press conference.
Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Kwok Ka-chuen said violence happened at commercial areas, including Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom on Saturday and Sunday.
"In the past weekend, rioters again blocked roads with illegal roadblocks. Once again, bricks and other objects were put on the road. They splashed paint on the windscreens of the buses, and endangered passengers. They burned items on the road, and set fire at different Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station using petrol bombs. Some MTR stations were forced to close," said Kwok.
Kwok said the rioters damaged shops, restaurants and banks, disrupting the normal life of Hong Kong residents.
"On the other hand, rioters threw bricks and petrol bombs at the police officers. Last night, the bricks hit the windscreen of a police vehicle with police officers on board. A policeman's head was hit, and he was injured. Such attacks could be fatal. Petrol bombs also hit a police car. The car was set on fire, but fortunately there was no any serious injury," said Kwok.
