China-Coronavirus/Chinese Painting
Traditional Chinese paintings depict battle against coronavirus
An elderly artist in east China's Shanghai Municipality has painted several traditional Chinese paintings featuring the current fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), with his works helping boost people's confidence in the battle against the epidemic.
Fan Fumin, 70, a native of the Xin'an residential community, has finished seven paintings so far.
"What I am painting now is passengers arriving in Shanghai by a high-speed train. We made a strict check on them, and this family of three showed full understanding," said Fan.
Behind each of Fan's works is a moving story. For example, the inspiration of his first painting came from the first batch of supporting medical staff from Shanghai to Wuhan, center of the epidemic.
"When people have the New Year's eve dinner during family reunion, they're packing luggage to go to the most dangerous frontline to save lives," said Fan.
Fan's paintings also record many other touching moments, including neighbors giving each other masks and neighborhood officials sending food to residents. His works, once released via the community WeChat social media, struck a responsive chord among the local residents.
"The paintings, with close ties with the current situation, are fantastic. We need paintings like these to encourage us," said a resident.
"We have been inspired at the very sight of them," said another resident.
