China allocates 80.55 billion yuan for coronavirus prevention and control
China has allocated 80.55 billion yuan (11.5 billion U.S. dollars) for the prevention and control efforts of the coronavirus spread as of Thursday, an official from the Ministry of Finance said on Friday at a press conference in Beijing.
Ou Wenhan, assistant minister of finance, briefed the press that the country has made every effort to ensure the funding for epidemic prevention and control.
"As of Feb. 13, a total of 80.55 billion yuan has been allocated from all-level governments with 41 billion yuan actually spent. We have also issued a notice demanding financial departments at all levels to put people's life and health first and implement all relevant policies," said Ou.
Ou said the prevention and control work is at a crucial phase and all levels of financial sectors must ensure the supplies and funding according to the situation and the needs of prevention and control work.
"We will earnestly fulfill the financial functions of the departments and improve the spending structure with the priority on meeting the needs of the funds in this regard. And we will enhance distribution and management of the funding. We will implement the polices introduced and monitor their implementation to address problems to ensure all funding is put to the best use," said Ou.
The ministry will also analyze the impact on the economic operation and financial revenue and expenditure as well as make full preparation for policy-makings, Ou added.
