        <headline xml:lang="en">China, Uruguay to see upgraded version of comprehensive strategic partnership: Uruguayan president</headline>
        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Yamandu Orsi on Friday said his state visit to China seeks to consolidate longstanding relations between the two countries so that a grand building of friendship can stand out to be more magnificent and solid.

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Orsi made his first state visit to China from Feb 1 to 7. He is also the first head of state from Latin America to visit China this year.

During an interview with China Media Group, President Orsi reflected on their diplomatic relations and outlined his ambitions for this partnership. He echoed his previous sentiment that the friendly relations between the two countries are like a grand building, and every agreement signed and every cooperation achieved with China add bricks and tiles to that building.

"Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and China 38 years ago, every Uruguayan president who has visited China has shared the same goal - to consolidate the friendly ties between our two countries. I believe that in the process of deepening Uruguay-China relations, every brick we lay together and every piece of the puzzle we put in place must be solid enough, so that our bilateral relationship can keep reaching new heights," he said.

The president characterized the evolution of the relationship as a gradual and steady construction, reinforcing his commitment to a friendship built "step by step."

"From the initial establishment of diplomatic ties, to the signing of bilateral agreements in trade and economic fields, and now to our comprehensive strategic partnership, the next step in Uruguay-China relations should naturally be the creation of an upgraded version of that comprehensive strategic partnership. This building of friendship and cooperation has always been constructed step by step," he said.
