        <headline xml:lang="en">China expects zero-tariff treatment to promote trade, cooperation with African countries: spokesman</headline>
        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
China looks forward to its zero-tariff treatment fostering synergy and integration in China-Africa trade, industrial, and investment cooperation, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

From May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2028, China will grant zero-tariff treatment, in the form of a preferential tariff rate, to 20 African countries that have established diplomatic ties with China and are not classified as the least developed countries, according to an announcement by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council.

"China has noted Africa's keen anticipation and positive response to the zero-tariff initiative. It is a significant measure by China to proactively expand unilateral openness, demonstrating our willingness to assume greater international obligations and firm commitment to expanding high-standard opening up. It is a concrete manifestation of China's commitment to the principles of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith in its Africa policy, and to the greater good and shared interests. It represents a vivid example of China and Africa working hand in hand to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, and holds epoch-making significance in the history of China-Africa relations and international relations," said Lin.

"Amid the current rise of global protectionism and unilateralism, and the spillover effects of the Middle East situation reaching the neighboring African Continent, China is sharing opportunities and pursuing common development with Africa through the zero-tariff policies, demonstrating the resolve of China and Africa to contribute to global peace and development through stability. The zero-tariff treatment will serve as the golden key to trade prosperity, a catalyst for industrial investment, a timely relief for challenges, and a bridge of friendship connecting China and Africa," said Lin.

"It will enable more high-quality, distinctive African products to reach households across China, enhancing the sense of fulfillment and happiness among the people of both sides. It will also support Chinese enterprises in expanding their presence in Africa, bringing more investment and industrial upgrading opportunities to African countries, and strengthening their capacity for self-sustained development," Lin added.

"We look forward to the zero-tariff treatment fostering synergy and integration in trade, industrial and investment cooperation between China and Africa, enabling enterprises and people of both sides to share the tangible dividends of cooperation, and creating a favorable environment for promoting the liberalization and facilitation of global trade and investment. The welcoming voices of African friends towards the policies are a vivid echo of the mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between China and Africa," said Lin.

According to the spokesman, China will also continue to negotiate and sign economic partnership agreements with relevant African countries, upgrade the green channels for the import of African agricultural and food products into China, and continuously enhance the level of China-Africa trade facilitation.

"China is willing to take the granting of the zero-tariff treatment as an opportunity to work with African partners to continuously expand the scope of zero-tariff measures, turning them into an enduring engine for promoting high-quality development in China-Africa cooperation and injecting new momentum into solidarity and collaboration among the Global South," said Lin.
