Lebanese authorities have confirmed that Hezbollah has agreed to a U.S. proposal for a "mutual cessation of attacks" with Israel, according to a statement by the Lebanese presidency on Monday, citing the Lebanese embassy in Washington. The latest talks come after intensified Israeli strikes and military incursions in southern areas, including regions north of the Litani River, in what many Lebanese see as an attempt to increase pressure ahead of negotiations. As Israeli evacuation warnings spread across Beirut's southern suburbs, thousands of residents have fled their homes in search of safer areas. "Today, we received a threat from the Zionist Israeli enemy against the southern suburbs. Like all the other displaced people, we left the area," said Mohammed Assaf, who was displaced from Beirut's southern suburbs. The latest displacement has added to what many residents describe as a worsening humanitarian situation, with families repeatedly forced to relocate amid continuing uncertainty over their safety. "We are not displaced from the south, but the place where we are staying now is under threat. It's under warning, and the threat is ongoing. It could be renewed at any moment, and we might be forced to flee again. Where would we go? We have nowhere to go," said Sarah Baydoun, another resident displaced from the southern suburbs. "I just left Bir al-Abed, and as soon as they finish bombing, I will return home. I will not leave my land or the southern suburbs," said Fadi Allama, a resident displaced from Bir al-Abed. Analysts and residents say Israel appears to be using military pressure to strengthen its position at the negotiating table, and seem intent on forcing Lebanon's negotiators and their supporters into accepting conditions that threaten Lebanon's sovereignty and security. Saeed al-Khansa, a Lebanese citizen, voiced her outrage at the situation: "The negotiations, and the military threats now, to bomb Beirut and its southern suburbs to force concessions, are shameful. This is my land, my home, my honor -- it's my duty to defend it."
