        <headline xml:lang="en">Global central banks' gold appetite at record high: World Gold Council</headline>
        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
More central banks than ever before plan to boost their gold holdings over the next 12 months, the World Gold Council said Tuesday.

The council released its Central Bank Gold Reserves Survey 2026 on Tuesday, which found that 89 percent of surveyed central banks expect global central bank gold reserves to increase over the next 12 months.

Forty-five percent of surveyed central banks plan to increase their gold reserves over the next 12 months, a record high.

Gold has recently surpassed U.S. Treasuries to become the world's largest official reserve asset, the survey report noted.

Of the surveyed banks, 83 percent believe that gold's share of total reserves will tick up further in five years, a notable rise from last year's 76 percent.

The council concluded that, based on a comprehensive analysis of the survey data, gold's strategic importance within central banks' reserve portfolios continues to grow.

The survey also revealed a new trend, showing that central banks in many countries are continuously adjusting their gold storage locations.

Nine percent of the surveyed central banks reported that they had increased their domestic gold stores over the past 12 months, compared to just 5 percent last year; another 10 percent said they would further diversify their overseas storage locations, a palpable increase from 2 percent last year.

Currently, the Bank of England remains the most popular vaulting location among respondents at 57 percent.
