        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
The Chinese community in Venezuela has been sending relief aid to survivors of the earthquakes that killed more than 2,200 people in the country.

The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,295, while the number of injured has climbed to 11,267, Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said on Wednesday.

Thousands remain missing a week after twin earthquakes rocked the south American country, and rescue teams say the chances of finding more survivors are fading.

But a massive aid effort is underway. Some of it is coming from local groups, including the Chinese Venezuelan community.

There are hundreds of thousands of Chinese descendants living in Venezuela. Some of them run businesses and have access to critical supplies to assist earthquake-ravaged communities.

"We are sending some water today. We have sent medicines, food, tons and tons of food. From the entire Chinese group in Venezuela, we calculate we have sent almost 2,000 tons of aid in total," said Chang Liang Melva, a Chinese Venezuelan in Caracas.

Some Chinese restaurants in the city are open 24 hours and are offering free food to those in need.

Volunteers are also delivering food to victim families.

"We are giving free food to the Chinese people here. As they are able to get here, they can come and pick up whatever they need. For the Venezuelan people, the food is being sent to them by helicopter and car. We have sent between 400 and 500 meals this way," said Cendy Cen, a restaurant manager.

Since June 24, Venezuela has recorded 782 aftershocks, though their frequency and magnitude have decreased.
