        <headline xml:lang="en">China has solid foundations to achieve full-year growth targets: official</headline>
        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
China has solid conditions and support to achieve its main economic targets for the full year of 2026, a senior official from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Wednesday.

In the second quarter of this year, China's GDP growth rate stood at 4.3 percent, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points compared to the first quarter. The NBS noted that this slight slowdown was primarily influenced by certain short-term factors and external conditions. However, the fundamental trend of steady economic operation and the transition toward new and higher-quality growth have not changed.

Indicators reflecting new growth drivers show that the second quarter performed better than the first, indicating that China's new growth drivers continue to gain steam.

In the second quarter, the equipment manufacturing industry above the designated size (enterprises each with an annual main business turnover of at least 20 million yuan, or 3 million U.S. dollars) grew by 9.7 percent, a 0.8 percentage point higher than the first quarter. Meanwhile, the value-added of high-tech manufacturing increased by 14 percent, 1.5 percentage points higher. These figures demonstrate that the development and expansion of emerging sectors and new growth drivers are accelerating, with second-quarter performance outpacing the first.

Addressing a press conference in Beijing on the economic outlook, Mao Shengyong, deputy head of the NBS, provided further insights.

"Regarding the trend for the second half of the year and the full year, the 4.7-percent economic growth in the first half has laid a good foundation for achieving the main targets for the full year, particularly the growth target. The direct contribution of new growth drivers to economic growth has exceeded 40 percent, and they are maintaining a very positive development momentum, which will continue into the second half of the year," Mao said.

"The momentum of new growth drivers to support and lead economic development remains very strong. Overall, there are solid conditions and support for achieving the main targets for the full year, especially the economic growth target," he said.
