        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
More than 930 million tons of carbon emission quotas had been traded on China's national carbon market as of the end of July, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu highlighted the national carbon market's role in promoting low-cost emission reductions.

"The cumulative trading volume of China's national carbon emissions rights trading market had exceeded 930 million tonnes by the end of July. The market has helped industries cut carbon emissions at lower costs and contributed substantially to the green and low-carbon transition," Huang said.

China officially launched its national carbon emissions trading market in July 2021, which has since evolved into the world's largest carbon market in terms of total greenhouse gas emissions traded.
