        <headline xml:lang="en">China‑Kyrgyzstan‑Uzbekistan railway project boosts regional cooperation, development: experts, workers</headline>
        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is set to help boost connectivity in Central Asia and the broader Eurasian continent, with regional countries working together to accelerate construction of the landmark project covered by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), according to experts and workers.

With a designed speed of 120 km per hour, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is a key connectivity project between China and Central Asia and is expected to become a new demonstration project for cooperation under the BRI. The route will begin in Kashgar, located in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and pass through the mountainous terrain of Kyrgyzstan to reach Uzbekistan.

The project is promoted by the heads of state of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, and is also a strategic project for enhancing connectivity between China and Central Asian countries.

In Kyrgyzstan 's Makmal, Chinese and local engineers and construction workers are building a freight transfer station where containers will be weighted and sorted.

"Once its construction is completed, the Makmal freight transfer station will help connect the railway networks in China and Central Asia, effectively cutting cargo transportation costs," said Liu Dongsheng, chief commander of the broad-gauge command department of the international railway project, in an interview with China Media Group prior to Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2026 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and state visit to the Central Asian country.

The section of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway running through Kyrgyzstan stretches 304.84 kilometers.

It involves 29 newly-built tunnels and 50 bridges, whose combined length accounts for nearly 40 percent of the total route.

"This is my first time taking part in such a large project. It is enormous. I think once the construction of all these bridges is completed, I will go to China to work there and cooperate with Chinese people," said Adilet Abdikalilov, a truck crane operator at the project.

Roughly 90 percent of Kyrgyzstan's territory is mountainous, with elevations ranging from 700 meters to 4,000 meters, posing challenges to railway construction.

Engineers said the three-arm drill rigs transported from China have raised their tunnel-building efficiency.

"We have effectively improved the efficiency of tunnel construction. In building the five grades of cascading wall rocks, we've raised our goal from the initial advancing 50 meters per month to 75 meters per month," Li Junteng, one of the chief engineers on the project.

Once the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway goes into operation, the logistics routes going through Kyrgyzstan will be shortened by approximately 900 kilometers, significantly enhancing the country's transit transport capacity.

"This railway is of great importance to Kyrgyzstan. It will help us better connect with China, other parts of Central Asia, the Middle East and even Europe," said Soltobaev Talantbek Osmonbekovich, Kyrgyz Minister of Transport and Communications.
