The rescue mission is underway in northern Nepal as authorities rush to deliver life-saving supplies to survivors and relocate the affected after a devastating mudslide triggered by a sudden glacier collapse on August 26 unleashed catastrophic flooding in Bhote Koshi River and sweeping districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. At a relief distribution center along the route to Nuwakot, helicopters were seen taking off and landing in rapid succession, ferrying water, bread, and other essential supplies to remote communities that remain inaccessible by road. "The biggest problem we are facing right now in rescue operation is the geography and the resources we have got isn't that enough," said B.R. Kanel, a local police officer. A local volunteer said that the site is currently providing temporary shelter and assistance for approximately 500 displaced. "The rescue operation is going on every day. We have been rescuing and taking people home at around 500 and more people like every single day from this specific barrack only," said a volunteer.
