The final three main towers of the Hangzhou Bay cross-sea railway bridge were capped simultaneously on Wednesday in east China's Zhejiang Province, marking the completion of all seven main towers for what will become the world's longest high-speed railway bridge spanning open waters.

The milestone means construction of the Tongsujiayong (Nantong–Suzhou–Jiaxing–Ningbo) high-speed railway's signature cross-sea crossing has now shifted to superstructure work, including steel girders and stay cables.

Stretching 29.2 kilometers across Hangzhou Bay, the bridge is designed for trains traveling at 350 kilometers per hour on a double-track ballastless standard. It serves as the critical control project for the entire Tongsujiayong high-speed railway line.

Once completed, the new line will seamlessly connect with multiple existing and planned railways, including the Yancheng-Nantong , Beijing-Shanghai, Shanghai-Kunming, Nanjingnan-Taicang, and Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou high-speed railway lines.

The project will significantly reduce travel time between the northern and southern shores of Hangzhou Bay and further optimize the railway network layout of the Yangtze River Delta region.
