Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China firmly supports Qatar in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence, security and stability. He expressed confidence that Qatar would continue to support China on issues concerning its core interests. Mutual political trust is a crucial foundation of the China-Qatar strategic partnership, Wang said, calling for expanded cooperation in conventional and new energy, investment, high technology and cultural exchanges. Al Thani said Qatar firmly adheres to the one-China principle and opposes external interference in China's internal affairs. He said Qatar supports the global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China at the United Nations and in other multilateral forums. The two sides also exchanged views on the Middle East and the Gulf. Wang said that continued tensions in the Gulf and the broader Middle East have seriously affected the security of countries across the region, while disrupting the stability of energy supplies, shipping routes and global supply chains.
