In a statement issued after a security assessment with senior military and intelligence officials, Netanyahu said he has also ordered the immediate cordoning off of the Palestinian city of Hebron. The announcement came after Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinians near the Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba, close to Hebron, after they allegedly opened fire, wounding five Israelis, including two critically, Israel's rescue service Magen David Adom and the military said. The Israeli military said the two Palestinians arrived by car at a junction near Kiryat Arba and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The two were later killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli troops, the military said, adding that the area has been cordoned off as searches continued for possible suspects. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the shooting. Netanyahu said Israeli forces are conducting extensive arrest operations across the West Bank. The shooting occurred amid escalating violence in the West Bank, where Israeli military raids and settler attacks killed and injured Palestinians and forced residents from local communities to leave their homes. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Israeli forces and settlers killed five Palestinians and injured more than 240 others in the West Bank in October, and since the beginning of 2026, 2,060 settler attacks have resulted in Palestinian casualties or property damage. قال رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو يوم الجمعة/ 23 أكتوبر إنه أصدر تعليماته لقوات الأمن بالاستعداد لفرض "إغلاق تام" على الضفة الغربية المحتلة، مشيراً إلى أن هذا الإجراء سيدخل حيز التنفيذ في وقت لاحق من اليوم نفسه، وذلك في أعقاب عملية إطلاق نار أسفرت عن إصابة خمسة إسرائيليين. وفي بيان صدر عقب تقييم أمني أجراه مع كبار المسؤولين العسكريين والاستخباراتيين، أعلن نتنياهو أنه أصدر أيضاً أوامر بفرض طوق أمني فوري على مدينة الخليل الفلسطينية. وجاء هذا الإعلان بعد أن أطلقت القوات الإسرائيلية النار على فلسطينيَين وقتلتهما بالقرب من مستوطنة "كريات أربع" الإسرائيلية المتاخمة لمدينة الخليل، بعد أن زعمت القوات أنهما قاما بإطلاق النار، مما أدى إلى إصابة خمسة إسرائيليين، اثنان منهم في حالة حرجة، وفقاً لما ذكره جهاز الإسعاف الإسرائيلي "نجمة داوود الحمراء" والجيش الإسرائيلي. وذكر الجيش الإسرائيلي أن الفلسطينيين الاثنين وصلا بسيارة إلى تقاطع قرب "كريات أربع" وأطلقا النار، ثم لاذا بالفرار من الموقع. وأضاف الجيش أن الرجلين قُتلا لاحقاً في تبادل لإطلاق النار مع القوات الإسرائيلية، مشيراً إلى أنه تم تطويق المنطقة بينما تتواصل عمليات البحث عن مشتبه بهم محتملين. ولم تعلن أي جهة على الفور مسؤوليتها عن عملية إطلاق النار. وقال نتنياهو إن القوات الإسرائيلية تنفّذ عمليات اعتقال واسعة النطاق في أنحاء الضفة الغربية. ووقعت حادثة إطلاق النار في ظل تصاعد العنف في الضفة الغربية، حيث أدت المداهمات العسكرية الإسرائيلية وهجمات المستوطنين إلى مقتل وإصابة فلسطينيين، وإجبار سكان من مجتمعات محلية على مغادرة منازلهم. ووفقاً لمكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية، قتلت القوات الإسرائيلية والمستوطنون خمسة فلسطينيين وأصابوا أكثر من 240 آخرين في الضفة الغربية خلال شهر أكتوبر. كما شهدت الفترة منذ مطلع عام 2026 وقوع 2060 هجوماً شنّها مستوطنون، أسفرت عن وقوع إصابات في صفوف الفلسطينيين أو إلحاق أضرار بممتلكاتهم.
