        <description role="CCTVPLUSdescrole:Storyline" xml:lang="en">
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that expanding and deepening China-Oman relations is a shared strategic choice of both sides, which conforms to the trend of the times and the common expectations and well-being of the two peoples.

Xi made the statement when holding talks with Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik Al Said of Oman at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi noted that China-Oman friendship has a long history, with political mutual trust growing increasingly solid, mutually beneficial cooperation yielding fruitful results, and traditional friendship becoming deeply rooted in the hearts of the people in recent years.

"China-Oman friendship has a long history. During China's Tang Dynasty (618-907), Omani navigator Abu Ubaidah traveled thousands of miles to China. Zheng He, a navigator of China's Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), made seven ocean voyages, visiting Oman four times, leaving behind memorable historical stories," he said.

"In 2018, our two countries established a strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in China-Oman relations. Currently, China-Oman relations stand at a new historical starting point. Expanding and deepening China-Oman relations is a shared strategic choice of both sides, conforming to the trend of the times and the overall trend of history, and meeting the common expectations and well-being of the two peoples," Xi added.

For his part, Sultan Haitham expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for the warm welcome and reiterated Oman's commitment to advancing bilateral relations.

"Your Excellency President Xi Jinping, China has always been a bridge connecting Eastern and Western civilizations and people-to-people exchanges, as well as a center for cultural dissemination and diverse ideas. I would like to express my gratitude to you for the warm welcome from the Chinese side. We have felt the deep friendship and mutual respect between the two countries and the two peoples. I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize that the traditional friendly relations between Oman and China are deep, and we are willing to work together to further advance this relationship," Sultan Haitham said.

Sultan Haitham is paying a state visit to China from Sunday to Monday at the invitation of Xi. This marks the first visit to China by Oman's head of state since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 48 years ago.
