Storyline

The victory tour of Hong Kong by medal-winning Chinese mainland Olympians continued into Monday, as the volleyballers, taekwondo combatants and table tennis players mingled with local players for demo matches.

The Chinese women volleyballers were treated to an open-top double-decker bus tour of the special adminsitrative region, where they were saluted as local heroines. The Olympic champions would later entertain local volleyball players through a demo match.

Lang Ping, the head coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team, recalled the difficulties herself and her team have gone through in Rio de Janeiro.

"I know we did not do great in some matches, and underperformed at the first stage. But now I am wondering whether they were saving their power for the key matches. When you are faced with difficulties, you do not improve your skills, like when you are sick or tired, they, as a team, will encourage each other to overcome the difficulties together," said Lang.

If the volleyball demo was more like a friendly match, the taekwondo demo by the Olympic gold-winning couple turned out to be a super demo of both guts and cuts. Zheng Shuyin was also very patient with the taekwondo kiddies.

"I think one should not press yourself too hard during the competition. Under excessive pressure, you may not perform well, so we should focus more on the whole match process and the details, and not be distracted from the match," Zheng shared her gold-medal winning secrets with her admirers.

Friendly and secret-revealing interactions extended into diving and badminton through such multiple Olympic gold medalists as Wu Minxia and Lin Dan.

"I am very nervous and excited, because it is the first time for us to have a chance to play table tennis with them. They may not use their full strength, when playing with us, because it is just friendly communication, we are really lucky to score," said T'ang Yung-Lan, a Hong Kong middle school student who played Olympic champions during their victory tour.
