Storyline


A delegation of Chinese Olympians arrived in Macao on Monday afternoon for a four-day visit.

The 64-member delegation including 42 Rio Olympic gold medalists, coaches, and elite athletes was led by Liu Peng, the minister of the General Administration of Sport of China.

Fernando Chui Sai On, the chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, greeted the delegation at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, where a welcome banquet was held.

"The residents of Macao closely watched each and every competition and witnessed every memorable moment when you won glory for the country. You have demonstrated perseverance and the indomitable will that are characteristic of the Chinese people on the world stage, which is the perfect embodiment of the combination of the Chinese national spirit and the Olympic spirit," said Chui in a speech.

The delegation of Olympians will attend a variety of activities and meet with the local youth during their visit.

The Chinese delegation won 26 gold, 18 silver, and 26 bronze medals, setting five world records and 12 Olympic records during the Rio Games.
