Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday met visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Beijing.
The two leaders called for further development of bilateral relations.
Premier Li said political, economic and cultural cooperation between China and Canada have deepened since diplomatic ties were established 46 years ago, and bilateral cooperation has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries over the last four decades.
He said China is now Canada's second largest trade partner and second largest importer and exporter, and there is great potential to expand the relationship further.
Trudeau said Canada is willing to deepen cooperation with China and boost prosperous development. He said Canada will strengthen its relationship with China in a more comprehensive way, to enhance peace and prosperity of the two countries and the world.
Trudeau is currently on an eight-day official visit to China, his first since taking office last November. During his trip, he will also visit Shanghai and Hong Kong and attend the forthcoming G20 Summit in Hangzhou on Sept. 4-5.
