Storyline

The two sides of the 565-meter-high Beipanjiang Bridge, the world's highest cable-stayed bridge, across southwest China's Yunnan and Guizhou provinces were connected Saturday afternoon.

Workers installed the last but one bridge deck on Saturday morning, and continued to install the last one in the afternoon. The connection will be completed as soon as all the decks are in place.

The bridge stretches across the Nizhu River Gorge and is 565 meters above the river.

According to the engineers, the deviation in construction must be within five millimeters. The bridge will become operational at the end of this year.
