Storyline

Visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang got on a bus made by a Chinese manufacturer in Havana, Cuba, on Sunday, and inquired how Chinese enterprises are operating in Cuba.

The bus is made by Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co., Ltd. (Yutong Group), an industrial group which first entered the markets in Latin America and the Caribbeans with other Chinese enterprises. Currently, it has a 90 percent share of Cuba's passenger bus market.

Li asked about the group's production, sales and services, and learned that during the past 11 years, it had exported 5,000 buses to Cuba with all the parts manufactured in China.

At the same time, he learned that Yutong has cooperated with a Cuban bus manufacturer and assembled 1,600 units with Chinese technologies and Chinese brand.

Li also urged Chinese enterprises to enhance their strength in quality, technology and services while drawing on the cost-effective advantage, so as to boost the added value of export.

He encouraged the enterprises to take part in the global competition as it motivates them to innovate and excel.

Li arrived in Havana on Saturday to start his three-day official visit at the invitation of Raul Castro, President of the Council of State of Cuba.

It is the first official visit to the Latin American country by a Chinese premier since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1960.
