Storyline

The sixth plenary session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which opened Monday, comes at a right time for Party building and the national development, said Wang Xuewen, a political analyst.

Wang said the timing of the four-day session is of particular importance as it will deliberate on the drafting of documents on Party discipline.

"The Party has made marked achievements in its most important campaign of combating corruption and it is time to sum up experience and institutionalize the practice," said Wang.

"Since the CPC is the ruling Party, it has to decide on all the important policies and chart the way for development," said Wang.

Wang said that the CPC is the key to the country's development. Since 2012, China has witnessed a sweeping anti-corruption campaign. That is an example of the ceaseless efforts by the Party to maintain the advanced and honest nature of the Party, added Wang.
.
This month's session will focus on the Party's tradition of discussing ideological framework and Party Building.

Each central committee of the CPC holds about six or seven plenary sessions, all focusing on the key issues of the time..

The Party's 17th central committees from 1981 to 2011 held seven plenary sessions, focusing on the opening up and reform in the rural areas.

The 6th plenum of the 11th Central Committee affirmed Chairman Mao's proper standing in history in light of the still-fresh Cultural Revolution.

The 6th plenary sessions of the 13th central committee in 1990 decided to strengthen the ties between the Party and the people when the country was deepening its opening up and reform policies.
