Storyline

China's giant pandas have been traveling to all sorts of places including overseas. But this trip to Shennongjia in central China for Aoyun and Yunyun is somewhat different. They are sort of returning to their old homes of a century ago.

On Tuesday, the two giant pandas have arrived at Shennongjia after a 10-hour journey from Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province. Shennongjia is located in central China's Hubei Province.

Soon after their arrival, both Aoyun and Yunyun failed to take interest in their new home or rather their old home. They both walked to and fro inside their cages and did not tuck in what interest them most - bomboo shoots. But a night of rest has turned both giant pandas to their usual selves.

"When it (giant panda) does not walk to and fro inside its cage and starts having tons of bamboos, this state is considered to be normal with giant pandas," says Yu Jie, director with Shennongjia Giant Panda Accommodation.

It's said that the forests in Shennongjia were once the homeland of giant pandas. But environmental changes and human activities have caused the disappearance of giant pandas from this region.

"According to historical records, giant pandas lived in Shennongjia just 100 years ago. Now that we welcomed the giant pandas here in Shennongjia from Sichuan, it can be treated as their return to home," adds Yu Jie.

For the next couple of days, Yu and his staff would like to acclimatize Aoyun and Yunyun to their old-and-new home by adjusting the surrounding environment, food supply and illness prevention. They are sure that before long, the two giant pandas would be out to meet the offsprings of their old acquaintances in Shennongjia.
