China always stands against any unilateral sanction that is conducted outside the framework of the United Nations Security Council, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday's routine briefing in Beijing.
Geng Shuang, the spokesperson, made the remarks when asked about China's view towards South Korea announcing sanction on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over its nuclear test.
China is strongly against any unilateral sanction conducted outside the framework of the United Nations Security Council, even more against any side undermining China's lawful and legitimate rights under the guise of unilateral sanction, Geng added.
"The current situation in the Korean Peninsula is complicated and sensitive. All parties need to make common effort to avoid stimulating each other or aggravating the tension. We hope all related parties could act prudently," Geng said.
South Korean government departments, including the foreign, unification and finance ministries, announced on Friday the country's unilateral sanction after the UN Security Council adopted tougher-than-ever resolution against the DPRK on Wednesday.
