Storyline

Displaced Iraqis in Mosul's eastern Kokjly are living in scarcity of food and water.

The residents queuing in front of trucks loaded with relief materials from humanitarian organizations are usually told to leave with little supplies due to the inadequacy of resources.

Many are disappointed in the desperate living condition.

"Aid agencies said they have supplies here, so many women and children came here early in the morning to wait," said a man in the queue.

Like many in Kokjly, the region liberated by the Iraqi security forces in early November, Abu Hussein fled Mosul city center with his family last month to avoid the war.

The man said his life has been changed since the IS took control of the city in June 2014. And little have been improved after he moved to Kokjly.

"In the past two and half years, no one cared for the residents in Mosul and those living directly under the IS control. All the supplies of gas, petroleum and food were only provided to the IS militants," he said.

However, Hussein said he is pleased to see the Iraqi security forces seizing more ground in Mosul since the military operation of regaining the city started in late October.

And though the living environment is harsh in Kokjly, he said he is happy to be away from the IS control.

"I'd rather live here in coldness with my family forever than being under the IS control even for one day," said the man.

Over 76,000 people have been displaced from Mosul since Iraq announced the start of its military offensive to retake Mosul on Oct. 17.
