Storyline

China's railway network was expected to carry close to 9.4 million passengers on Saturday, on the ninth day of the annual Spring Festival travel rush.

The three major railway stations of the capital Beijing continue to witness the highest passenger volumes as millions of Chinese travel back to their hometowns to be reunited with their families.

The Hangzhou East Railway Station in east China's Zhejiang Province saw its passenger flow hit a peak level on Saturday with the volume up to 230,000.

Road traffic across China remains normal but larger traffic volumes have been experienced in some areas including the Yangtze River Delta and at areas near toll stations on several key expressways.

Meanwhile, passenger numbers entering and exiting the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in south China's Guangdong Province reached a record high by passing over the 200,000 mark on Friday.

Chinese airports are expected to see a huge surge in travelers over the next few days ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year which falls on Jan. 28.
