A rainstorm swept through the city of Auckland in north New Zealand on Saturday night, causing extensive damage and power cuts.
The storm, accompanied by strong gales, tore apart big trees, wrecked outdoor public facilities and caused over 200 weather-related accidents in the city, according to local authorities.
"[The] damage here this morning here is to St. Mary's [church], which is a heritage building in New Zealand from the 1880s, and I believe the oak trees were also planted in the 1800s," said a local resident who pointed at a tall tree which had fallen onto a nearby cathedral.
The storm also severed power lines across the city and caused a blackout that affected 15,000 households.
"It was just so annoying for me all night. [I] couldn't sleep until 4 a.m." said another resident.
