"When you look at high-quality products, then in a lot of cases, craftsmanship is necessary. Even in today's times of mass production, where you think of the future, a lot of manufacturing and assembling can be done by robots, but it needs somebody who understands how manufacturing goes on, how it happens, it's not just engineering, it's not just people coming from university, but also people who know how handcrafts works."

Craftsmanship is a key factor in upgrading China’s manufacturing, said business leaders attending the ongoing Boao Forum for Asia in south China’s Hainan.
In Interbrand's 2016 Best Global Brands report, only two Chinese brands, namely Huawei and Lenovo, were listed among the top 100.
At a sub forum themed on “Bring Craftsmanship Back to Manufacturing”, the role of craftsmanship in modern manufacturing was definitely stressed.
Guest speaker Lu Minfang, CEO of China Mengniu Dairy Group, said craftsmanship is best upheld by details.
"Craftsmanship stresses on the quality instead of the quantity. Good quality stems from fine details. In our view, if a Chinese brand tends to become a global brand, the core is whom you choose to rival against. Thus we need to constantly study, do researches and make comparisons to have the world class quality become our new standard. Pursuing the international standards will be a new normal for us,"said Lu.
Another guest speaker Michael Fübi, chairman of TÜV Rheinland AG, a global provider of independent testing, inspection, and certification services, said craftsmanship is essential to have the mass production deliver quality products.
"When you look at high-quality products, then in a lot of cases, craftsmanship is necessary. The four-day forum that started on Thursday has attracted 1,727 representatives from 50 countries and regions around the world, as well as press people from 196 media organizations worldwide.
