Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2017 opened on Saturday morning in the coastal town of Boao in the southern island province of Hainan.
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the opening ceremony of the high-level annual conference, calling for wisdoms of attendees on how developed and developing economies should cope with challenges in globalization.
In the letter, Xi said, "This year, the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference is themed the 'Globalization and Free Trade: The Asian Perspectives'. This has reflected the concerns of the international community, especially of Asian countries, for economic globalization. I hope that the participants will pool your wisdom, contribute your visions to addressing prominent problems for the global and regional economy in a joint effort to advance more dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable economic globalization. I wish the annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia 2017 a complete success."
Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony on Saturday morning, expressing confidence in China's economy, and reiterating the country's stance to support globalization and its deep connection with other Asian countries.
Japanese former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, also chairman of BFA, also delivered opening and welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony.
The four-day forum started on Thursday and lasts until March 26, with the first two days slated for sub-forum meetings, and the rest two days the official annual forum and other sub-forum meetings.
