China's sound economic fundamentals remains unchanged although its economy has entered a new normal, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli said on Saturday.
China's economy has registered a slower but stable performance with good momentum for growth, despite ongoing major shifts in economic pattern, structure and momentum, Zhang said when delivering a keynote speech at the 2017 annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia, held in China's Hainan Province.
"The big ship of the Chinese economy is going steadily on its long voyage toward a bright future. The country's economic development has entered a new normal with major changes taking place in economic growth rate, growth model, economic structure, and the driver for growth. Yet the fundamentals supporting a long-term and positive trend of economic growth has remained unchanged," said Zhang.
Amid a sluggish world economy, China's GDP expanded 6.7 percent year on year in 2016, contributing to more than 30 percent of global economic growth, with better-than-expected employment.
China is expected to import goods worth 8 trillion U.S. dollars in the next five years. During the period, the country will attract 600 billion dollars of foreign investment, with its outbound investment reaching 750 billion dollars, Zhang said as he highlighted China's commitment to opening-up and easier access for foreign investment.
"China has been unswervingly pursuing the policy of opening-up to the outside world. China has always opened its door to the outside world and will open it even wider as the country further develops," said Zhang.
Zhang also stressed that China will always be a contributor to world peace, global development and international order.
"In the face of profound changes in the international political and economic landscape, China will always stand on the side of peace and stability, will forever be committed to equity and justice, and will always work for world peace, contribute to global development, and uphold the international order," said Zhang.
