"It is difficult, as said by de Mistura himself, to see a significant success in the coming days, probably months. Only a solution with the international framework could solve the Syrian problem. Otherwise, fighting could continue for decades."
(Reporter: "There is no end in sight of this?")
"I don't see it personally."

Storyline

There is not much hope for significant progress at the Syrian peace talks this week, said a High Negotiations Committee delegation member during an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) Saturday in Geneva.

The delegation member Monzer Makhous who is attending the peace talks painted a bleak picture of the talks.

"It is difficult as said by de Mistura himself to see a significant success in the coming days, probably months. Only a solution with the international framework could solve the Syrian problem. Otherwise, fighting could continue for decades," he said.

Little activity was taken at the UN with a pause in the Syria peace talks. But in Syria, the violence continues. The escalation of fighting last week led the UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura to call on all sides to respect the ceasefire.

In a suburb of Geneva, Sunday church goers gathered for prayers at Antiochian Orthodox Church. Priest Moses is from Syria and came to Switzerland last year. But three months ago, he found his 13-year-old boy had been hit by shrapnel following an explosion in his village.

"It becomes even more difficult if someone inside your family, one of your family members, is hurt and you are not there for them. You end up trying to be with them. But there are lots of people being wounded and killed every day, with shrapnel, with bullets or by a car bomb," he said.

Some of the church members are also originally from Syria. Their frustration with the peace process is clear.

"The actors of this conflict of the war, of the civil war, call it whatever, I think we come to a point where themselves don't know any more what are their goals, what are they aiming for and what is the end of all of this?" said Oday, a Syrian-born visiting Antiochian Orthodox Church.

Escalating violence in Syria has threatened to undermine these peace talks. But all parties are at least at the negotiation table. And there are still several days in order for this round of talks to bring progress.
