Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday said all parties involved in the Syrian issue should share a common goal of fighting against terrorism and cooperate with each other.
Lavrov made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Italian counterpart Angelino Alfano in the Russian capital of Moscow.
Lavrov said United States, Turkey, Iran, and some European countries have already got involved in the Syrian issue and the situation has become more complicated. He stressed that all parties should set a common goal of fighting against terrorism above everything else, instead of seizing geopolitical interests for themselves.
"We support all the parties involved in the issue, whether they are invited by the Syrian government or not. We should set a clear aim to fight against terrorism and coordinate our actions," said Lavrov.
The Russian foreign minister said eradication of terrorism and extremist groups in Syria, Iraq and the world conforms to the common interests of all countries.
He added that the priority now is to fully implement UN Security Council's resolutions on the Syrian issue and to resume a new wave of UN-led Geneva peace talks.
Lavrov met with the visiting Italian foreign minister on Monday in Moscow. They have exchanged views on increasing mutual political trust, fighting against international terrorist organizations and enhancing cooperation in economy, energy and culture.
The two ministers told the press conference that the two countries would further cooperate together on combating unprecedented outbreaks of international terrorism.
