China's tax revenues increased by 11.8 percent in the first quarter of 2017, compared with the previous year, said the State Administration of Taxation (SAT) on Thursday.

"In the first quarter of this year, tax revenues of all organizations (under the national tax department) was 3.33 trillion yuan after deduction of export rebates. The revenues increased by 11.8 percent, compared with the previous year," said Zheng Xiaoying, deputy director of the Department of Revenue Planning and Accounting of the SAT, at a press conference in Beijing.
Zheng attributed the fast increase to the relevant good indicators of economic performance, especially to the fast growing producer price index.

Head of the Taxation Science Research Institute under the SAT Li Wanfu said the growth shows Chinese macro-economy is progressing in a steady way.

"The tax revenue figures of the first quarter this year indicate the Chinese strategic pattern for a macro-economy with stable progress can be basically achieved, that is to say, the economic development has a good start. The tax revenue figures also fully show our economic indicators are gradually getting better, especially the relevant indicators of economic development which forms part of the tax revenues. So in the future I think a benign interaction between tax revenue and economic growth will emerge," said Li.
