"The sooner negotiations are held, the earlier the people both in the countries of Palestine and Israel and in the region benefit. The two sides should respect each other's right of subsistence. The talks can start first, then a breakthrough can be made from the talks so that we can strive to produce the good results as soon as possible, rebuild and enhance mutual trust step by step. The talks should be continued so as to prepare for an ultimate solution."

China on Thursday called for peace talks between Palestine and Israel to take place as soon as possible to benefit the people of both countries.
Liu Jieyi, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made the remarks at a monthly meeting of the Security Council about the Middle East issue, pointing out that the two countries should resume negotiations at an early date and make decisions in the interest of their people.

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, briefed the Security Council about the situation in the Middle East at the meeting, saying the Palestinian-Israeli conflict stands as "a potent symbol" of the problems in Middle East and can easily be "exploited" by extremist groups.
Palestinian envoy to the UN, Riyad Mansour, appealed to all parties involved to observe Resolution 2334, adding that the resolution "is not anti-Israel".
Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, refuted Mansour for praising Marwan Barghouti, a leader of one of the largest protests in Israeli jails in recent years. He is currently leading a hunger strike.
