Storyline

Both Chinese and American sides were optimistic about future economic cooperation at the International Finance and Infrastructure Cooperation Forum held in New York City in the U.S. on Monday.

Collaboration in infrastructure and the Belt and Road initiative were key topics among the 200 high-ranking officials and heads from notable enterprises who attended the forum, held at business media giant Bloomberg's headquarters.

"We as a nation have the ability to help with some of our own infrastructure need with our own money, but at the same time there will still be a need for more capital. And Chinese investors are smart investors and they understand opportunity and we understand capital and I think we should get that smart investing together with a need," said Matt Bevin, Governor of Kentucky.

"Not only the money side from China but also the expertise on how to build buildings and seaports and airports and their knowledge in that space of how to build infrastructure," said Earvin Johnson, ex-professional basketball player and current Chairman of Magic Johnson Enterprises.

Guests attending the forum all agree that it's promising for China and the U.S. to cooperate in terms of investment and infrastructure. Both sides should seize the opportunity under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative so that peoples from both countries can benefit from globalization.

"One Belt One Road covers an area that includes about 50 percent of the world's GDP. And that opens up great new opportunities for global investors and over the last year, our country has hosted a series of events around the world called 'China: Navigating the New Silk Road'," said Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City as well as the founding owner of Bloomberg.
