6. SOUNDBITE(Spanish) Alberto, Santiago resident:
"Earthquakes are not so rare in Chile since the country lies on two seismic belts. We cannot predict when it will happen, but we know it happens. We just do not know when and how serious it is. However, we are prepared for quakes and we hope it will not bring a disaster to us."

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit central Chile on Monday with no reports of casualties or major damage, according to Chilean authorities.
The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 18:40 local time, was located 72 kilometers west of the coastal city of Valparaiso.
Residents in the capital city of Santiago also felt the tremors, which lasted for several minutes.
"I felt the quake continue for like five or six minutes. Then the quake faded and felt less intense before it stopped completely. It was shaking overall for about ten minutes," said Susana, a local resident.
However, Interior Minister Mario Fernandez told local media outlets that there have been no reports of victims or major damage following the jolt.
The seismic waves did cause "several small" fissures on roads and led to the suspension of subway services, Fernandez said, but he dismissed the possibility the event could have triggered a tsunami.
Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, who was en route to the northern Tarapaca region at the time of the quake, has urged people to remain calm.
The president’s calls were echoed by residents in the capital who have experienced this situation before.

However, we are prepared for quakes and we hope it will not bring a disaster to us," said Alberto, a local Santiago resident.
