China is expected to see a travel peak in the passenger flow on Saturday, the first day of a three-day Labor Day holiday from April 29 to May 1, especially on railway, expressway and in civil aviation.
In railway transport, it is expected to have a throughput of 50.5 million passengers across China during the holiday, and handle an average of 12.63 million people per day, rising by 10 percent year-on-year, according to transport authorities. In the sales of railway tickets, passenger flows will be concentrated in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu, Zhengzhou and other major cities.
To meet all the travel demands for passengers during the holiday, the railway department has arranged more middle-and- long distance trains. For instance, the Xi'an Railway Bureau in northwest China's Shaanxi Province has added a total of 210 trains to Beijing, Guangzhou, Taiyuan, Chengdu and Chongqing; Shanghai Railway Bureau has added a 146 short-and-mid distance passenger trains from Shanghai to the cities around the Yangtze river delta area. During the holiday, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Railway Bureau has added more bulletin trains from Urumqi to Kumul, especially during the weekends, to meet the travel demand of passengers to a maximum degree.
Apart from railway and civil aviation, the expressways in some part of the roads, train stations, express stations will experience a short travel peak during the holiday.
It was learned that from the Ministry of Transport, the traffic flow reached its peak from 10:00 to 11:00 on Saturday, and it is expected to continue to report travel peak on Monday from 14:00 to 19:00, and it will return to normal after 21:00.
Some tourist attractions in Beijing, such as the Summer Palace and the Palace Museum will accommodate more visitors, so the visitors flow will reach its peak during the holiday. Some parts of the major expressways, such as Beijing-Lhasa Expressway, Beijing-Pinggu Expressway and Beijing-Hongkong-Macao Expressway, are very likely to see traffic jams.
It was learned that starting from 00:00 Saturday to 24:00 Monday, all expressways in China are toll-free for 7-seater and smaller vehicles and motorcycles, according to transport authorities.
