Storyline


Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak respectively in Beijing prior to the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

In his meeting with the Prime Minister, Xi said that Malaysia is an early supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative and has become one of the countries that has benefited the most from it.

Xi told Prime Minister Najib Razak on the eve of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation that China will continue to increase bilateral cooperation under the initiative.

For his part, Najib said the Belt and Road is a historic initiative that will bring huge changes to the region and the world at large, adding that Malaysia will actively participate in it.

Xi then said the China-Malaysia relationship is currently at its best ever and the two sides will continue cooperating in the areas of culture, counter-terrorism, education, industrial parks, law enforcement, railway projects, security and tourism.

China will advance the comprehensive strategic partnership with Malaysia to further improve bilateral ties, Xi added.

While meeting the Prime Minister, Chinese premier Li Keqiang said that China appreciates Malaysia's positive response to the Belt and Road Initiative and China is willing to support the construction and interactive development of China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park and Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, promote the cooperation of Malacca Industrial Park project, enlarge the infrastructure construction such as railways, build closer economic and trade exchanges, and enhance cooperation in national defense and law enforcement with Malaysia.

Li also said that he hopes Malaysia can play its active role in promoting the development of the China-ASEAN relations.

For his part, Najib said that Malaysia is willing to continue to strengthen the development momentum of the bilateral relations, actively cooperate with China in building two industrial parks and infrastructure construction, and expand cooperation in e-commerce and tourism.

Malaysia is willing to make positive efforts in promoting ASEAN-China relations, Najib added.

They later witnessed the signing of a series of bilateral cooperation documents concerning economic development, customs inspection and quarantine, as well as infrastructure.
