"Since last October, relations between China and the Philippines have improved in an all-round way and kept growing for the better, which helps shape a good political environment for and greatly promote the friendly people-to-people exchanges between our two nations. In return, these friendly contacts will help improve our friendship, mutual understanding and trust, consolidate the foundation of public opinion for our good neighborly and friendly relations, and provide more positive energy for the sustainable, healthy and steady growth of our bilateral ties. As you have seen, recently, the contacts between China and the Philippines, indeed, have been warm. There have been constantly good news. Just several days ago, President Duterte came to China and attended the Belt and Road Summit for International Cooperation, and had a nice meeting with the Chinese leaders. Both sides have signed cooperative documents in the fields of economy, technology, talent, energy and press and publications. Yesterday, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines Pantaleon Alvarez started his visit to China at the invitation of Zhang Dejiang and conducted communications between the two legislative bodies. Then, today, in Guiyang, the first meeting of the China-Philippines bilateral consultation mechanism on the South China Sea was held. Both sides conducted friendly dialogue and consultations on the South China Sea issues. I believe, as China and the Philippines keep advancing their friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in different areas, both peoples will enjoy more tangible outcomes."
