Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Friday met with visiting speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, Pantaleon Alvarez, in Beijing.
The Chinese premier said that the China-Philippines good-neighborly friendship conforms to the basic interests of the two countries and their peoples, as well as contributes to regional peace, stability and development.
China wishes to deepen mutual trust, promote cooperation and frequent exchanges with the Philippines to expand common interests and properly handle differences, and to consolidate the public support for bilateral relations to get back on track and keep the relations developing in a healthy and stable direction, said Li.
The premier hoped that the legislative bodies of the two countries would strengthen their exchanges and cooperation. China supports the Philippines' work as the rotating chair of ASEAN this year, and is ready to work with relevant parties to promote further development of the China-ASEAN relations as well as regional cooperation in East Asia.
For his part, the visiting speaker said that both houses of the Congress of the Philippines are supportive of improving the country's relations with China. The two countries' pragmatic cooperation has achieved new outcomes, which help Asian countries to gather consensus.
Alvarez welcomes Li to visit the Philippines and to attend the East Asian leaders meetings on cooperation slated for later this year.
