Storyline


Constructors completed the casting of asphalt pavement for the main section of the world's longest cross-sea bridge, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HKZM) Bridge, on Saturday.

The HKZM Bridge has a total length of about 55 km, including a 6.7 km underwater tunnel and a 22.9 km bridge over the sea, linking China's southern economic hub Guangdong Province with Hong Kong and Macao.

It is a single-deck bridge construction project with the largest area of pavement. The paving design not only meets complicated load-carrying requirements of steel box girder pavement, but also protects main bridge structure from sea climate conditions, such as high-humidity and high-salinity.

The waterproof and cohesive layer of the HKZM Bridge, which is under the asphalt layer, has been completed on May 6.

The casting asphalt pavement is the most difficult part of overall deck pavement, which requires the highest standard constructors and construction. If weather permits, overall deck pavement of the HKZM Bridge main section will be completed by the end of June.
