3. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Wang Minghui, vice governor, Sichuan Province (starting with shot 2) (ending with shot 4):
"According to the geologists who have participated in the rescue operations, the chances of the missing persons surviving a landslide from such a height are small, particularly because the landslide site is so narrow that large-scale search operations are hard to conduct in the area. In addition, the rescuers can't dig too deep, so as to avoid triggering a new collapse of the rocks. However, despite all these adverse factors, we will spare no effort and regard saving people's lives as our top priority."

The authorities of southwest China’s Sichuan Province will spare no effort to search for the people missing in a landslide that hit Xinmo village in the province’s Maoxian county despite the slim chance of finding survivors, according to the province’s vice governor.
Wang Minghui, the vice governor, made the statement at the second press conference following the occurrence of the disaster on early Saturday.
However, despite all these adverse factors, we will spare no effort and regard saving people's lives as our top priority," said Wang.
The authorities will dispatch experts and technicians to the site to monitor water quality, appraise the risk of a secondary disaster and to prevent an epidemic outbreak in the landslide-hit region, added Wang.
The prefectural government of Aba released a name list of 118 identified missing persons on its website following the press conference.
The collapse of one side of a mountain in Xinmo Village happened at 5:45 on Saturday, dumping eight million cubic meters of rocks from a height up to 1,600 meters upon 62 homes of the village, according to authorities.
