Slope stability radars have been employed in the ongoing search and rescue operation of the landslide in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The radars are used to guarantee the safety of some 3,200 rescuers at the scene.
Fifteen people have been confirmed killed by the landslide and 118 people are still missing.
The landslide from a mountain in the Aba prefecture hit Xinmo Village in Maoxian County at about 06:00, blocking a 2,000-meter section of river and burying 1,600 meters of road.
The Sichuan provincial government has launched the highest level of disaster relief response and sent rescue teams to the site.
The 3,200 professional rescuers are working around the clock to comb the area with life detectors and sniffer dogs.
Due to the fact that rocks could fall upon rescuers from the mountain, slope stability radars have to be employed in the operation to guarantee safety of the rescuers.
If displacement of the slope is detected, alarms would sound off to warn rescuers to evacuate from the site.
Meanwhile, rescuers have extended their search zone along the river valley since Saturday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday ordered all-out rescue efforts for those buried by the landslide.
Authorities must make maximum efforts to reduce casualties and prevent secondary disasters, Xi said.
Family members of the missing people and those suffering property losses in the disaster must be given appropriate care, according to Xi's instruction.
Xi has ordered the State Council, China's Cabinet, to send a work team to the site.
As China enters its annual flood season, local governments across the country should strengthen disaster prevention to ensure safety of people's lives and properties, according to the order.
Premier Li Keqiang also ordered more rescue efforts and examination of further geological risks.
People in danger should be relocated as soon as possible to prevent secondary disasters, Li said.
He has instructed to start probing into the cause of the landslide and proper handling of the aftermath.
As required by Xi and Li, State Councilor Wang Yong has led a work team to arrive at the site. Authorities of Sichuan Province and Aba Prefecture have launched the highest level of disaster relief response.
