Storyline

A major passageway has been opened as operations are continuing to search for and rescue 93 persons still missing in the landslide that buried a whole village in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The six-meter-wide passageway will allow multiple forces to carry out operations simultaneously. Large machines are making precision digging and search at the site.

The local weather forecast says there will be rain in the next two days and that will add to the difficulty of the rescue work.

The landslide engulfed 62 homes in Xinmo village in Maoxian County in the Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba Saturday morning, blocking a 2-km section of the river and burying 1,600 meters of roads.

Ten persons have been confirmed dead and 15 people had been taken off the list of the missing as they were not in Xinmo village when the disaster struck, according to the local authority. Only three persons from one family were rescued hours after the landslide.
