World leaders have begun their two-day G20 summit in the German city of Hamburg.

The theme of this year's G20 summit for heads of state and government is "Shaping an Inter-connected World." The gathering will focus on global economic growth, globalization, multilateralism, finance, trade and healthcare, among other issues.

The G20 grouping serves as a platform for world leaders to discuss their differences on pressing issues from free trade to climate change. German Chancellor Angela Merkel delivered her speech at the opening session, calling for major economies to take responsibility for tackling global challenges.
